Aker Barents is an Aker H-6e designed semi submersible drilling rig and the world`s biggest and most advanced (together with her sister rig Aker Spitsbergen). The rig is designed to be able to operate safely and efficiently at depths of 3000 metres, in harsh offshore environments and/or in environmentally sensitive areas.

The advances that have been made with the H-6e design were apparent during her yard stay as she has been alongside Byford Dolphin, which is an Aker H-3 design rig built in 1974. The Aker H-3 rigs operating in the North Sea have efficiently served the oil industry, and with modifications and good maintenance will no doubt do so for many years to come.

The first H-3 generation of rig visited the yard for repair in the spring of 1994, and many rigs of the same design have visited Ølensvåg since. Just as Aker have based their new H-6 design on experience from previous generation of rig, Westcon has developed the infrastructure of the yard based on experience serving our rig clients and meeting their needs.
